Some Like It Hot: In-Floor Heating Options

Headquartered in Rockville, Maryland just outside the DC-metropolitan area, Architectural Ceramics is familiar with chilly temperatures in winter.  Before the weather gets cold or you complete your next tile project, consider using in-floor heating as a way to keep your toes warm during these next few months.

Because of our vendor partnerships with Laticrete and Schluter, AC offers multiple types of in-floor heating options.  Now let’s heat things up and find out which system may be right for you.

Laticrete

Laticrete is AC’s go-to vendor partner for installation items such as grout and thin set.  They’re experts in what goes between and under our tile; which includes floor warming systems.  AC offers both an in-stock and special order in-floor heating system:

Strata Heat

Strata Heat, is our in-stock, in-floor heating option.  Developed by Laticrete, the system is made of three parts: wiring, spacer strips, and a WIFI-compatible thermostat.

Flexible and durable, the wires or cables paired with the spacers allow for a flexible installation.  Your installer lays the high-performance cables with a set spacing, like 3″ apart, to create an even distribution of heat throughout the room.   But if you’d like a little more or less heat in a given area of the room, he can adjust the spacing accordingly.

If you have an oddly shaped room, there’s no need to worry.  Your installer can easily change the layout of the spacers and the cables.  Made of light-weight plastic, your installer doesn’t have to worry about making adjustments because the system itself is easy to move and manipulate into place.

Are you a creature of habit?  Do you always shower in the early morning, when porcelain or stone tile floors are habitually cold no matter what the season?  By using your in-floor heating system manually via the thermostat’s touch-screen, or by way of WIFI from your smart phone, it learns your routine over time and applies the most efficient setting for your home.

Floor Heat Mat

Also available from Laticrete, is the Floor Heat Mat.  This special order system, is an all-in-one, adhesive-backed mesh mat, sized to standard dimensions.  Instead of heating an entire bathroom floor, for example, the 1’x20′ mat works well in front of a double vanity.

Schluter

Popular and hot products from our vendor partner Schluter, that are also in-stock with AC, are the KERDI Shower Kit and the metal transition strips, Jolly and Rondec.  Our sales are heating up however, for their special order in-floor heating system: DITRA-HEAT.

Ditra-heat

It’s hard not to notice Schluter’s signature orange color that’s prevalent among their products.  The orange mat of their DITRA-HEAT floor heating system is part of what makes the system so successful and unique.
