The weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful. This year, winter brought falling temperatures and snow that broke records from coast to coast. Thankfully, we’re done rushing around for the holidays and we can stay warm inside.
So, before we rush into the New Year, let’s settle in at home next to a roaring fireplace and take one last look at the stockings hung there with care. Better yet, let’s look at a few fireplaces that feature Architectural Ceramics tile. You may find yourself topping your list of New Year’s resolutions with the line: freshen up the fireplace.
Modern & Moody
Made to look like Italian travertine, this large format porcelain tile from our in-stock Monticello Collection, does double-duty as a stylish and durable fireplace option.
The 24″x48″ tile, cut to size, creates an apron for the fireplace. The flooring, also shown in the Argento color from our Monticello Collection, carries the color seamlessly from the vertical to horizontal surface.
Just like natural travertine tile would have a range of color variation, our porcelain does the same. The collection is also available in a range of sizes, from a large format 24″48″ field tile to a mesh-mounted 2″x2″ straight-stack mosaic. To view the our full collection, take a look at our Monticello data sheet here.
Classy & Glassy
As you reflect on the 2017 year, here’s a tile option that will reflect light around the firebox. AC’s Truffle Collection offers four colorways, able to act as a subtle backdrop or a bold pop of color for your decor.
The fireplace featured above and shown in the color Mallow, is a calm and neutral focal point. We’d love to make mallow bars with melted marshmallows and chocolate; good thing we can toast them at the fireplace. For a bolder color crush from 2017, check out the teal and maize combo aptly named Crush. To view the full collection, check out our Truffle data sheet here.
Also from 2017, Home & Design Magazine featured Architectural Ceramics as a tile resource in their 2018 Source Book: Bethesda Area Shopping Guide. There, you can see another fireplace that uses AC’s Truffle Collection in Crush, and a quick mention of our Bethesda-area showroom at 6807 Wisconsin Ave.
A natural stone option with a twist, the Perfect Pebble Collection from our vendor Island Stone, gives a natural look other than marble that’s perfect for a fireplace. Whether seen in a creek-bed or the Rehoboth beach shoreline, using this interlocking pebble tile brings a bit of the outside in.
For our DC-metro area client, they did just that with our Perfect Pebble shown in Java Grey. The mix of grey, tan, charcoal and green allows for the surrounding decor to layer in warm and cool tones. The walls, for example, feature a subtle silver-green paint, while the upholstery brings in a warm texture and tone.
While a patchwork quilt warms you by the fire, this patchwork tile pattern will warm your fireplace surround. Our Pratt & Larson vendor, brings a fresh look to a traditional ceramic material.
Architectural Ceramics is pleased to bring this handmade Portland, Oregon product line to the east-coast. Here, our DC-metro area client layers in color and texture with their traditional ceramic tile design. A mix of hand-etched and hand-glazed geometric patterns, these 4″x4″ tiles from the AR series, patterns Q – W, blend together the way square pieces in a patchwork quilt would be sewn together.
The room setting pulls together well, where each design element balances off one another. The warm gold tile mimics the warm tones of the mantle and hardwood floors. It also speaks to the smaller brass details of the fireplace screen or the edge detail in the chair design. The texture of the fireplace tiles plays well with the texture of the natural jute rug. While the tones of the fireplace tiles are earthy, the red wall behind them gives an energizing backdrop and modern edge to the space.
